With many thanks to Dee Cee for this brilliant review
It’s with great pleasure today I get to share my review of A Hundred Tiny Threads by Judith Barrow as part of the blog tour. My thanks go to Honno Press and Judith for the copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a cracker of a story that is totally absorbing.
It’s 1911 and Winifred Duffy is a determined young woman eager for new experiences, for a life beyond the grocer’s shop counter ruled over by her domineering mother.
The scars of Bill Howarth’s troubled childhood linger. The only light in his life comes from a chance encounter with Winifred, the girl he determines to make his wife.
Meeting her friend Honora’s silver-tongued brother turns Winifred’s heart upside down. But Honora and Conal disappear, after a suffrage rally turns into a riot, and abandoned Winifred has nowhere to turn but home.
The Great War intervenes, sending Bill abroad…

I just received my copy, paperback, a few days ago. No, alas, I have not started yet as I’ve been helping a friend pack up her flat in Carcassonne and sending it all back to London. I shall miss her. However, A HUNDRED TINY THREADS, has jumped to the top of my TBR stack, okay the main stack, and it won’t be long!

Thanks Judith. It is her work and this is for play! However, I shall look forward to her visits as Chez moi et chez toi! As for A Hundred Tiny Threads, I know I shall love it but I must finish the four I am currently reading, or at least one of them… ❤

Yes, I have given the TBR list much thought and have come to the conclusion that like my cats, I need eight more lives to make a real dent in it… 🙂 x

I’m glad. Yes, it’s one of the most fascinating yet dreadful eras in UK history. The images of WW1 are devastating, yet there were so many wonderful social changes changes as well.

I just finished watching Foyles War which is set in Britain during WW2.
It was entertaining and an education into the every day problems of life under constant attack.
That kind of story telling is an accomplishment.
